welcome
WE ARE STARTING ANOTHER BUSY YEAR FOR THE HADRIAN’S WALL WORLD HERITAGE SITE AND LOOK FORWARD TO WELCOMING VISITORS OVER THE COMING MONTHS.We are particularly excited and honoured to be associated with the British Museum’s forthcoming exhibition ‘Hadrian: Empire and Conflict’, which takes place from 24 July - 26 October, and are working hard to maximise the opportunity this presents to boost visits to Hadrian's Wall.
As a precursor to this and in recognition of the importance of Hadrian to our region, the British Museum is sending on loan one of its star pieces from the exhibition, a stunning bronze head of the Emperor Hadrian. This will be on show at Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery in Carlisle from 8 February to 13 April and at Segedunum Roman Fort and Museum in Wallsend from 16 April to 8 June.
The loan of this unique exhibit is a wonderful opportunity for people in the north to learn more about their Roman heritage and the legacy that Hadrian left behind. We are delighted to be supporting Tullie House and Segedunum on this project and are particularly grateful to BP and the Heritage Lottery Fund for making the tour possible. We are working closely with the British Museum to raise awareness of the Wall and thus boost tourism to Hadrian’s Wall Country this year.
